This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated individual to join a dynamic and growing team in one of today's hottest sectors of the IT industry. The Extreme Scale Infrastructure (ESI) organization consists of Data Center Solutions (DCS) & Datacenter Scalable Solutions (DSS) and focuses on infrastructure and solutions for the hyperscale and near-hyperscale space. Operating as a semi-autonomous business within Dell, ESI maintains a “start-up and scaling fast” mentality. This culture has allowed ESI to grow exponentially. As such, applicants for this role should demonstrate an ability to manage a broad spectrum of responsibilities and interface effectively with non-product management functions such as engineering, architecture, sales, procurement, operations, program management, and finance. The ability to effectively deal with ambiguity cannot be overstated.

The Product Manager will develop a deep understanding of the needs of cloud and telco service providers involved in various stages of implementing the server, storage, and networking building blocks needed to deliver their solutions, translate that understanding into a business plan, and execute on the delivery of that business plan through a multi-year product roadmap. The ideal candidate will have deep experience in product management and business development, and a proven history of working with service providers, cloud and telco specifically, to build strategic alignment, develop business plans (forecasting market size and opportunity size), defining product requirements, building roadmaps, and successful execution. The Product Manager will have an in-depth knowledge of Dell’s server, storage, networking and software portfolio with the ability to drive influence into the product management process of that portfolio. The Product Manager will follow an Offer Lifecycle Process in adding products and solutions to the roadmap. This entails the formulation of concept charters that clearly identify the basis for competitive differentiation, business case (inclusive of both investment and revenue), and the necessary competitive and intra-line positioning to allow the Product Marketing team to execute the go-to-market activities. Products and solutions on the roadmap will also undergo a definition process that clearly calls out details of the specific components at a sufficient level of detail to enable a field resource to respond to an RFI/RFQ/RFP.

The Product Manager will work closely with Sales and Customers on formulating the right product for business needs and then engage with the product development teams on ensuring alignment to those product needs. Products range from monolithic servers to rack scale solutions to modular data centers and includes software and solutions. Some products will be solely for one customer where the engagement is very tight with the customer. Other products will be for a specific set of customers in a specific market.

Qualifications:

  • 15 years of experience in product management in server or service provider marketplace (as either customer or vendor).

  • Experience following an Offer Lifecycle Process, developing roadmaps, and building differentiation in product portfolio

  • Strong knowledge of data center technologies, future trends, and direction, including hyperscale industry competitors.

  • Technical understanding of the core hardware elements of an enterprise data center (i.e. compute, networking, and storage) and the software/hardware ecosystem that supports infrastructure virtualization

  • Experience and understanding of the growing influence and role that open source (hardware, like OCP and TIP; software, like ONF, Openstack, OSM, Open-O, Kubernetes) plays in infrastructure solutions development

  • Experience building product marketing collateral, including solution briefs, product presentations, and customer/partner presentations

  • Solid business, analytical, and critical thinking skills.

  • Must have a pragmatic, hands-on style, and the ability to “think outside the box”.

  • History of directly supporting sales resource in the field and incorporating their feedback to refine offerings.

  • Strategic analysis, communication and business modeling skills

  • Experienced at managing and delivering on time with multiple concurrent priorities.

  • Business Acumen (understanding of the sales cycle)

  • Must have the ability to thrive in a high-growth, fast-paced, and demanding environment.

  • Bachelor's Degree - required; Engineering Degree preferred

  • MBA preferred
