Our Hadoop/HDFS Team , part of the file access protocols engineering organization, is seeking a Principal-level Software Design Engineer to join their team. As part of Isilon’s core product strategy, we enable our thousands of customers to work at a scale that wasn't previously possible by shipping a true clustered file system that can be expanded from a few dozen terabytes up to many petabytes. The goal is to package game changing technology, un-paralleled scalability, and record breaking performance into a product that is simple to manage and continuously delights our customers.

As a Principal Software Development Engineer, you will drive the efforts within a development team to deliver product features from initial requirements to final completion in Isilon’s OneFS product releases. Your expertise in security and file access network protocols, open source, UNIX system level design and implementation, distributed systems, and client/server interoperability will help us create industry leading products for the Isilon Storage Division within EMC 2 .
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Develop software solutions on Isilon’s OneFS platform to enhance our customer’s ability to manage multiple petabytes of data.
Demonstrate effective verbal and written communication skills across multiple teams to obtain requirements, build a detailed design, and provide a high quality implementation.
Design and develop solutions to complex technical problems that deal with high scale, concurrency, and performance.
Contribute to the culture of quality throughout our broader engineering organization.
Share experiences and skills to aid team members in enhancing their professional skills and career.
Possess a strong aptitude exploring new technologies and understanding how to apply them to new product releases and in customer facing support scenarios.
BS in Computer Science or related technical field, and 7+ years industry experience with network or storage protocols, UNIX/Linux systems software development, or related field.
Experience working on multiple product release cycles.
Development of system software written in C or C++. Additional experience with Python is preferred.
Knowledge of object oriented design patterns.
Experience in one or more unit test frameworks.
An understanding of the UNIX operating environment including system configuration, memory management, system calls, and multiplexed I/O.
Knowledge of distributed software systems
Candidates may also possess any of these highly desired skills:
Experience with Hadoop in shippable software/services
Experience in working with system protocols.
Knowledge and/or exposure to kernel and user mode technologies.
