Data Center Analyst – Global Data Center Services

Location: Round Rock, TX

General Summary:

Dell’s Global Data Center Services organization is responsible for the services/operations for all of Dell IT’s global data centers. The Data Center Analyst oversees the coordination of data center space allocation and layout and is involved in developing, modifying and executing data center policies, processes and standards. Evaluates implemented solutions and practices, ensures compliance is met, identifies opportunities and recommends solutions for continuous improvements.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Periodic inspections of assigned data centers to ensure policies are being upheld

  • Responsible for floor space allocations and related rack and rack peripheral infrastructure build out to accommodate hardware installations and moves

  • Generates and communicates Data Center metrics

  • Manages data center operations–owned inventory

  • Communicates provisions of data center policies and standards; facilitates customer understanding of processes and procedures

  • Plans and coordinates with various cross-functional teams and vendors to ensure present and future capacity/scalability

  • Assumes a leadership role in developing and applying new approaches to data center management

  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge of information systems technology and disseminating that knowledge to the organization

  • Works with users, and cross-functional teams to translate requirements into documented processes and procedures

  • Develops new analytical approaches to data analysis

  • Performs complex tasks with regards to the development of processes, procedures, automation tool implementation, and deployment of tools

  • Leads the development and delivery of technical training programs

  • Acts as team/project leader on one or more initiatives or projects



  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related technical discipline with 5+ years relevant experience; or Master’s degree with 3+ years relevant experience; or equivalent work experience

  • In-depth understanding of data center infrastructure optimization techniques such as Computation Fluid Dynamics (CFD)

  • Advanced knowledge of production processes and data center infrastructure

  • Excellent understanding of all IT hardware

  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills; strong presentation skills

  • Able to effectively convey technical aspects to senior leadership and/or customers

  • Good understanding of industry standards, best practices and emerging technologies

  • Ability to prioritize projects and/or deliverables

  • Ability to work effectively with senior management

  • Strong data analysis skills – ability to make recommendations/informed decisions from data

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the US with no restrictions; visa sponsorship not offered with this position

Preferred/Nice to Have :

  • Knowledge of data science and big data analytics (Tableau, Hadoop) concepts is a plus

  • Data center certifications are a plus

  • Six Sigma is a plus

  • ITIL knowledge is a plus
