DESCRIPTION OF RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsible for tooling development for mechanical parts and supporting the mechanical design and development activities associated with desktop and portable computer systems.
Emphasis is on supporting development of complex, detailed, and accurate part and assembly tooling.
Interfaces with suppliers, engineering, manufacturing, quality and other development groups to ensure the successful development and launch of new products.
Meets routinely with suppliers to exchange information, participate in supplier selection, and influence supplier strategies.
Supports design, analysis and testing of complex mechanical piece parts and assemblies.
Plays a key role in ensuring the final design meets the marketing requirements, quality goals, cost goals, and product specifications as well as achieves world-class standards of reliability, manufacturability, EMI containment, and serviceability.
Identifies and mitigates potential schedule, budget, or quality risks.
Leads and influences integration of mechanical and tooling strategy across technical disciplines both internally and externally.
Researches and integrates new technology into product portfolio and development plans.
Regularly provides direction, oversight and coaching to less experienced team members.
Drives consistency and thoroughness.
Viewed internally and externally as a technology and tools expert.
In-depth experience in magnesium die casting, plastic injection molding, sheet metal forming, zinc die casting, machining and part finishing desired.
Understanding of mechanical design of computer systems.
In-depth experience with mechanical and tooling design analysis tools.
Proven leadership abilities.
Undergraduate degree and 10+ years relevant experience or Graduate degree and 8+ years relevant experience.
